We are very happy to announce a doubly delicious set of books releasing soon! Fox & Raven is wonderfully excited to announce that, in the next couple of weeks, we’ll be publishing two books by the talented Cas de Villiers, well-known for his controversial work during the 1970s and his powerful political writings on Africa.
But this time around, we’re taking a look at de Villiers’ creative work. First up, ‘The Wolf and I’. In this collection of essays the narrator recounts his numerous conversations with the enigmatic Wolf – a creature from another dimension who visits the narrator at intervals throughout a couple of years.
In their many conversations, the Wolf and the narrator explore the many facets of the human psyche; their frank, insightful conversations lead them to explore topics of love, death, ageing, family, politics, religion, society and much more.
In this moving retelling of what is essentially one man’s journey into self-exploration, de Villiers seamlessly illustrates how only through compassion towards others and the self, one can hope to find some form of calmness.
“I encountered the Wolf in my dreams – as you might have expected. And so, I stumbled on reality. Ironic, isn’t it, that my conversations with the Wolf of the Night, in a state of dreams, helped me to escape the illusion of time as real – most of the time, at least.
Now, I feel freer in the House of Being than in the old shadows of judgment and expectation. Grateful for the wizards on the way, introduced to me by the Wolf, for the sake of discovering the Magic in Moments in the Unfolding of this Timeless Mystery.”
Next up, we are very excited to announce Fox & Raven’s very first anthology of poetry. That’s right! Together with ‘The Wolf and I’, we’ll be publishing Cas de Villiers poetic debut, ‘Ritme Sonder Rede’.
In this collection of poetry, de Villiers explores diverse themes of human nature and experience. Poems deal with excitement, nostalgia, anger, longing, frustration, spiritual growth and contentment, to name but a few.
With a tender play on emotions and a delicate craft, de Villiers skilfully negotiates various aspects of life that resonate with any reader. With poems in bothEnglish and Afrikaans, ‘Ritme Sonder Rede’ is a true reflection of the contemporary South African poet, and more than that, the contemporary South African.
“Op ‘n stukkie van Palmietfontein, in Wes-Transvaal verdwaal,
het gister, of ‘n eeu gelede, daar waar ou verslete Wilgers
gedweë uit die vlei verdwyn,
wit voëlstrepe oor die groen van klawerlande uit die blou geskyn.”
Both titles will be available in selected bookstores nation-wide, as well as ebooks. Keep a look-out for the product information pages over on our home page for all the dirty product details early next week.
